Rugby Legend Dallaglio Gets a Brand Makeover

Posted in Uncategorized by touchmarketing on June 29, 2009

The former England Rugby captain has had an identity created for himself and the Dallaglio Foundation. The identity has been created by a West-Sussex based consultancy.

Lawrence Dallaglio

The foundation raises money for charities including Cancer Research UK. The initial brief was to design the identity for the foundation, but it soon became apparent that Dallaglio himself could use a brand of his own to use for hospitality and sponsorship events.

Both brands have a common element – the number 8, which was the playing number of Dallaglio. The colours of each identity reflect the allegiance Dallaglio has to England and the black and gold of his former club side London Wasps.

The foundation identity will carry the strapline ‘powerful together’ and will be used on invitations and marketing materials for charity events. His personal identity will be rolled out over the next few months.

They will roll out the title with digital activity and regular customer emails, a strategy adopted by rival online retailer ASOS. They aim to move away from the conventional catalogue style to a more editorial approach with fashion and lifestyle articles. Next already publish a customer magazine which is mailed to Next Directory recipients, but this new publication will be aimed at a wider audience.

Next is the UK’s biggest online fashion retailer, targeting mainly 16 to 34 year olds, with its nearest rival being ASOS. However, this new marketing push follows a trend set by many other retailers that already produce in store magazines, such as Morrisons, Tesco, Asda, Superdrug, Boots and Debenhams. These often contain competitions, money off vouchers for use in store as well as useful articles on fashion and beauty.

After a slow start to the year Cadbury has now seen sales rising in the UK and US.

Wispa

The confectionary group saw improved trading during April and May, and fully expects to meet forecasts for full-year sales growth. The strong Easter trade and the re-launch of the Wispa bar saw Cadbury gain a good market share.

Wispa successfully returned as a limited-edition product in 2007, five years after it had been axed due to falling sales. After a large fan base came to light they re-launched the chocolate bar as a permanent product with a huge advertising campaign behind it.

Cadburys say that their chocolate sales remained ‘robust’, while gum and sweets returned to growth after the slow start at the beginning of the year. They recently launched, in the UK, a major campaign, on Trident gum packaging, to win tickets to see Beyonce at The 02 Arena. The consumer was given the opportunity to win free tickets to attend the concert every time they bought a pack of Trident gum.

Created by their London agency, the press, online and in store ads feature the message “We stand up for savers”. The campaign launches this month targeting the building society’s existing customers that hold variable rate accounts. The new ads have a very British theme and have bunting as well as other symbols that are associated with summer celebrations. Bunting will also be a feature of the in store campaign.
